Hey there Karl fans. Marty from Banal Leakage here. This is my second stint guest posting on another blog [the first one is here].
When Karl asked me to join his Summer Of Love, the first thing that popped into my head was that song by The B-52’s:

Who doesn’t love the B-52’s? Ok, you can put your hands down now. And I knew it wasn’t the Beach Boys song of the same name either.
My next thoughts went to the counter-culture movement in 1967, starting with the Haight-Ashbury area of San Francisco and propagating to other cities around the country. Ahh… free love, drugs, sex, political expression. A time when people expressed themselves in the open, without care what others said or what they did to try and stop them.
I got to thinking about the whole Summer of Love and some of its similarities to modern day blogging. We set up communities in cyberspace to talk about all sorts of subjects, freely expressing (most of us) how we feel without regard to what others may say.
And while there are subjects that some of us still keep reserved, for the most part, we talk about what’s on our minds, how we feel about food, how often we masturbate, the list of 100 things that makes us tick and many other subjects that we share to anyone that cares to read or listen.
Karl is a perfect example of “Balls to the Wall” blogging. His lack of restraint for blogging about pretty much any subject makes him the Summer of Love blogger. And it’s that no-holes barred blogging that garners a wealth of visitors to this site.
And I could name so many other bloggers that wear their words on their sleeves for all the world to read their unrestrained gut spilling. It’s that idea that drives most of us to tell our stories, share our hurt, celebrate our success and live within the moment of creative thoughts put into text, audio and video.
The Summer of Love - in blogging format. In the almost quarter-century since people boldly and publicly ignored the norm and lived in the moment and did what they felt like, you could say “We’ve Come A Long Way, Baby”
And with that, it’s time to go be creative and speak your mind. If you don’t have a blog, chat it up in person with a good friend. If you do have a blog, then share that whole conversation in an entry that others can read and comment on. Live it up… it’s the Summer of Love. I know I plan to indulge.

Here here! Where else can we stalk perfect strangers, judging their lives and their grammar? I heart blogging.
sportsfansdaughter - Blogging… it’s harsh, but the readers love it.
And here I thought “Summer of Love” was all about masturbation!
Now I can’t get the song “Balls to the Wall” out of my head. That should drive me crazy all day!
And the B-52’s song…never heard of that one. I’m an old school B-52’s fan.
As far as blogging and Karl? Well, one of the things I love about him is the fact that he tells a great story and puts it all out there.
That’s one of the things I love about blogging for myself. I rarely hold anything back.
avitable - Well, maybe with Karl it is… that would be called the “Summer of One”
lisa - he he… nothing like a good Accept song to get you through the day. That B-52’s song was on an album called “Bouncing Off Satellites”
Not Holding back… I’m getting there with my blog. I’m working up to the tell all.
Lewis Black had Ultimate Fighters vs Bloggers on his show last night. It was pretty funny. Bloggers lost of course. But I do think that bloggers with their dependence on social media are the epitome of the Summer of Love. We are all twatting and stroking each other all day long!
Marty, thanks for the post, dude. Now where are all the drugs and sex?
winter - Figures the bloggers lost, but hey, we are lovers not fighters.
karl - No problem. As for the drugs, just called my dealer. And the sex… uh.. there’s a table full of them where you are at…. have at it (but still send the rest of them to me…)
Yeah, but has it really come a long way? It almost seems as though we are now hiding behind our computers to show this rebellious persona whereas the children of the counter-culture movement were in your face! Would we all be so bold in “real life”? I dunno.
Less seriously… how often do you masturbate? I must’ve missed that post.
kapgar - You make a good point. We may have come a long way, technology wise, but being in front of people… although look at some these blogger events. Judging from the photos of something like Dave Diego, it’s obviously a good amount of these people don’t have issues interacting “face to face”
As for the how often question for me, you’ll have to wait till the next time I guest post out here.
The answer for Karl is pretty obvious… multiple times daily.
so is it “no-holes barred”? or “no-holds barred” or is it that it should be “no holes bared”?
whall - Well what do you know. After looking it up over on urbandictionary.com, it really is ‘no holds barred” Looks like Mr. Smarty Pants taught Mr. Marty Man something new today.
But ‘no holes barred’ could apply for Karl and masturbation.
