Sweetie, it's not going to be under control overnight. It takes time for the "shift" to take when you change meds - no matter if it's higher, lower, or complete change of meds. That's one thing I have found that's really frustrating for me. I was doing everything right and still my numbers were shit. I felt like I was killing myself for nothing. Until the break.

Yeah, I'm still on the high side of normal, but really, we can't compare ourselves to "normal" readings. And every diabetic is a little different.

What are you eating for your snacks? I find that peanut butter and half an apple works great for me. Or sometimes grahams with pb&j...usually anything with a little PB in there. It's just the longer-lasting carb that converts better than other carbs (for me, anyway). Yeah, I get to the point where I'm sick of PB so I change it up often.)

But I'm the same way - if I don't have a snack at all, I'm super high in the morning...(which is totally the opposite of what one would think.)

Fucking pancreas. Why don't they work right? Grrr....

The Charlie analogy was an awesome one! I hate that you feel that you can't just enjoy the way you feel now because you know that the dark side is looming.

Do you mind my asking if they've done an A1C? If so, what is it? If you don't want me to know, I understand.

@sue, You're welcome. I can tell you from my experience. I've seen my stepmother go blind from diabetes. I saw HER father go blind, lose limbs... I don't want that in my later years, and I'll bet you don't, either. Please take care of yourself.

@Amy, Yeah, the "real food" thing may come soon. Right now, I'm all about the convenience, since I have to take care of my Mom. The beer? I only have 1-2 here and there, nothing major. My weight is no longer an issue. I've lost 35-40 pounds in the past year.

I am just glad you're actually putting in the effort now. You are far too important to too many of us to put yourself last!
When you start backsliding, I'll be here, shoving my foot in your ass. With love. And lube.
Hahaha
xoxo

I'm proud of you for all you're trying to do. I'm a type 2 and have those periods of being an 'ostrich'...then go overboard the other way and am incredibly good. Somehow, it doesn't seem to make a difference... except I know it has to be better for me. Right now I'm kind of in the 'ostrich' phase, but seeing all you've been going through and knowing if I keep this up I'm going to be on the insulin myself, you are inspiring me to take better care of myself. Thank you Karl.

Maybe while you're writing everything down, you should keep a food diary, too. And perhaps think about replacing those Doritos with, oh, I don't know, a vegetable? Or a fruit? :) Real food is going to screw with your blood sugar a lot less than processed crap like Doritos and alcohol.

Livestrong.com (which I've been using for weight loss since November - and I've lost 25 pounds) has a special program for diabetics, and I'm pretty sure it's free - http://www.livestrong.com/diabetes-journal/

There's also a diary section where you can record mood, etc. (and although I'm not diabetic, I'd imagine that the specifically-designed-for-those-who-are section probably includes a slick way of recording blood sugars).

They even have an iPhone app.

I think the reason I've been successful with weight loss (for the first time in my life) this time is because I'm near a computer all the time, and Livestrong.com makes it EASY to keep track of things.

I'm not affiliated with them... Just a satisfied customer.

Check it out!
