She really would rather be on her own, so don't worry if she gets better and wants to be independent again. I'm 5 years older than her. I also live where it isn't supposed to be icy, but when I tripped and fell, I said enough! I now square dance and go to Curves three days a week. Now I'd at least have a chance of catching myself before I fell. So sorry to hear your mom is left in the hands of her son.
