Just a short post to say Merry Christmas to all my friends out there. Or Happy Hanukkah. Or Kwanzaa. Or Festivus. Or whatever holiday you celebrate.
I’m about to head out to Boca to stay with my sister for a few days. It’ll be another big family affair, with my family and my brother-in-law’s family, too. There will be numerous visits to other houses, big meals, and presents galore for the kids. My nieces, 13 and 6, will get the bulk of the loot, of course. Most of us decided not to be grown-up presents this year. Freaking economy.
In my case, the economy = the dentist. I had my fourth and final gum treatment Monday. I go back in a month for one more cleaning, then it’s time to start on the many visits to deal with my teeth. All of that is going to make my $200/gum scraping treatment look cheap.
I also finally put in the order for my new specs on Monday. Thank God I got my Famecrawler check early this month. Progressive bifocals, polycarbonate lenses, anti glare, cool retro frames…another $300. Should have them in a couple of weeks.
My real Christmas this year came in the form of another family, actually. A friend of a friend was in need and so my mom and I adopted them and put together a Christmas package for them, the kids in particular. Spent way more than I did on my actual family this year, but that’s what brought me the joy I’ve been seeking, the holiday magic.
I hope you’re finding your own holiday magic. Holidays can be stressful, I know mine are. I have yet to pack and we leave in 90 minutes. Haven’t decided if I’m taking the laptop or not. I doubt I’ll have much time to get on it. I certainly don’t think I’ll be working in the next couple of days. The iPhone may be just enough to make me feel connected.
So Merry Christmas. Hope Santa is good to you this year. I’m praying that my friends have love and joy, that some of you find the jobs you need quickly in the coming year, and that I get a girlfriend under the tree.
See you on the flip side, probably on Boxing Day.

Merry Christmas, Karl. Have fun in Boca while I’m stuck with 20cm of snow. And my inlaws.

Merry Christmas, my friend. If you see a yellow Mini Cooper S with a white roof, white bonnet stripes and a UF tag speeding by you in Boca, it’s probably me. Wave, mkay?
Have a wonderful time. Relax and enjoy. No thinking about teeth.

KARL! You are awesome and I know personally how amazing it is to get those kinds of care packages that allow your kids to feel loved and gifted and to just make the holiday more merry…especially when you can’t do it yourself. You deserve a BIG freaking cookie, my man!

That holiday spirit is elusive some years. It’s always amazing to behold when you experience it.

@Sue – Very true. I caught some of it this year. Hope you did, too.

We used to do the adopt-a-family every year. Then one year when we brought the presents and food over, the parents were driving brand new Escalades and they had better things in their house then we did in ours. It really killed the excitement for me. Maybe next year I will try again. I love having that “Christmas” feeling.
Hope you had a safe, warm and wonderful holiday. (hugs)

I think it’s awesome that you helped out a family in need for Christmas this year. Didn’t it give you the best feeling than any other present you gave or received?
Glad to hear the dental work is coming along as well. Plus new specs? Geez, you will be a brand new man in 2009…step back!
Happy New Year Sweetie!

@Becky – Don’t let one bad apple ruin the orchard for you. There are plenty of REAL families in need.
@Lisa – I know! Can’t wait for my new specs. Happy New Year, babe.
@Twinkie – Geez, can’t you send them off to Christmas camp or something? So inconvenient, the schools sending them home for weeks!
@Sheila – Heh, true. Hope you have a great 2009.
