What Are Feeds?

May 21st, 2008

Right, so I’ve had a few people write to me after my earlier post about using a feedreader. I love helping people, so feel free to ask me questions about feeds or any other issue.

If you’re clueless about feeds, don’t feel embarrassed. We ALL started somewhere. We were all newbies at some point. Two years ago I didn’t know what feeds were, either.

I don’t usually post twice a day, but I’m making an exception today because I think the following video is essential watching for ANYONE who reads blogs. And it answers the questions far better than I can.

It’s RSS Feeds in Plain English. Great 3-1/2 minute video. Oh, and turn up the volume so you can hear the dude.

If you aren’t using feeds, this shit will change your life! No kidding.

EDIT: Here is the direct link for the video if you can’t see it here.

I love how he shoves the paper off the board when he’s done with it. LOL I suppose I’ll have to try again with the readers this weekend. I miss some of the blogs I was reading.

Winter - yeah, great video. The sound quality on their newer vids is much better. They have one on Twitter and one on Podcasting…others, too.

For the longest time, I didn’t use feeds. I would just bookmark all of the sites I went to in multiple places: local bookmarks, online bookmarks, URL links on my home page, blog links on my blog roll… then I started adding feeds and now it tells me when a new post has been added.

It did change my life… well, at least how I catch up with my blog peeps.

Martymankins - Yep, I used to do the same thing. Became rather unwieldy after getting up to 30 feeds, though.

This was actually really helpful. I knew what a reader was but never got around to setting one up, and now I”m going to. Thanks!

That’s pretty good and somewhat innovative. His presentation style, not the content.
